If someone asked me to describe Njeri in words, I’d say Resilience, Social, Jovial, and Hardworking. A working mother, Njeri continues to prove her love and commitment to her 3 children regardless of the challenges they face. She has always pleaded with me to help her in the construction of a new house as the one she has been staying was almost falling. I told her to pray that we may find funds to construct the house. It seems that her prayers have been answered.
Njeri is Epileptic but strong mentally to raise her children as of casual labourer around Gikuu village Kiharu Constituency. Over the years, I’ve seen her children grow up. Her elder daughter Teresiah who just cleared her primary studies has been of great help to her mother in taking care of her other two siblings. Yes, Njeri is resilient and hardworking.
She is also social and jovial. Every time I visit her, I know one thing: I will leave with a smile on my face out of her stories.
Njeri’s new house was dedicated this month and from the dedication of her daughter in helping her mother, we give this house the name ‘Teresiah’s House’ But that’s not at all the end of the story. As she tells me, she sees it as a new start.
“It’s a new beginning,” Njeri says. “I have been given the opportunity to see life differently, with hope. Now I know that there is another way to live, in harmony with myself, with God, with my family, and with this community.”
